That certainly wasn't a game for the neutrals. Both teams appeared to be crippled by nerves, and a detrmination to not have to play anywhere near their own try-line.
As a result, we were 'treated' to a real eyesore of a match, with both sets of backs testing their kicking skills regularly, but ignoring the fine, talented players waiting out wide for their chance to shine.
That said, neither back line seemed able to even execute the basics when they did get their chance, in a match that will be remembered for the occasion and the tension, but not the standard of play.
As a result, thanks once again to the boot of Jonny Wilkinson, England are through to the final, to play either Argentina or South Africa. It has to be said that they will be underdogs whoever they face, certainly after that display.
I would love to say that tomorrow's game will be better to watch, but with probably the two best packs in the tournament facing off, expect a war of attrition, and a physical battle of eye-watering proportions.
Both of those teams also have a fine set of backs to use, if they want, but with so much at stake expect another pounding from the forwards and a bunch of particularly clean and unused backs come the end of the match.
