That was a frankly disappointing game, especially as it came hot on the heals of the astonishing match between Fiji and Wales.
The Scots will not mind at all about the spectacle, they're through to the quarter-finals to probably play Argentina, although if they play like that again it will be easy passage to the semi's for the Pumas.
There was zero inspiration from either side. The torrential rain didn't help matters though, ensuring that running rugby was rare, if not entirely extinct.
To make things worse, there was the sickening sight of Rory Lamont landing on his head following a mid-air collision with Andrea Masi. The officials were concerned, and the referee immediately stopped play, something that almost never happens in professional rugby.
However, a quick wipe with the magic sponge later, and Lamont was back on the pitch, although he was substituted minutes later.
Quite what Michel Platini, who somehow obtained a ticket, made of that I don't know. The former star of French football mage his name on the very same St Etienne pitch in his youth, but I fancy he may have been somewhat surprised by the level of sportsmanship and respect for the officials in rugby.
Perhaps, just perhaps, Platini may have some good ideas for UEFA after a (miserable) night of rugby.
