Pool B/ Wales - Fiji (34-38): Pacific joy in Nantes

I had been looking forward to this match since the tournament started, with both teams commited to an attacking running game, and I wasn't disappointed.

Actually I was disappointed, but only because my team lost.

Apart from that it was a pulsating affair, in which we saw everything good you could wish to see in a rugby match.

Both teams were brutally committed in the tackle, a little too so at times in my opinion, but referee Dickinson was the man in charge, not me.

We saw some fantastic running, including a swerving run from Shane Williams, that has to be seen to be truly appreciated and some of the Fijian power running from deep really punished the Welsh when they dared to kick away possession.

But most importantly there was high drama. A tremendous start from the Fijians, a roaring comeback from the dragons, and finally a the islanders finding the resolve to claw their way back into the lead again as the game entered the final stages.

Enter Martyn Williams who then scored a breakaway try to nudge the Welsh ahead again before a scruffy close range score finally saw the Fijians in front for the final time for a deserved victory.

When I get my breath back I may be disappointed, but that was a special performance from Fiji, and there's no disgrace to losing in that way.

On the bright side, it's now someone else's team that have to face the South Africans in Marseille, a match that the Springboks should win at a canter.
